Joseph Phelps Freestone Vineyards Chardonnay
This wine is a mix of the best selections from the estate plantings, including some heirloom selections that define its character and structure. The nose reveals aromas of toasted brioche, apricot pits, lemon oil, shaved almonds, flower petals and chamomile infused with honey. There is great concentration, weight and intensity in this Chardonnay with vibrant, focused flavors of honeysuckle, quince, orange blossom and a touch of apple skins to tempt the palate. This wine is full-bodied, has great length and has a tangy, citrus finish with tremendous precision and minerality.
Spring Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
Spring Mountain Vineyard is an 845-acre estate on the eastern slopes of Spring Mountain. Over 225 acres of the estate are planted to vine, representing 135 distinct hillside vineyard blocks with many soil types, exposures and microclimates. Originally four individual 19th century Napa Valley vineyards, Miravalle, Alba, Chevalier and La Perla are now one vineyard producing exclusively estate grown wines. A substantial portion of the vineyard is planted in densities of over 4,000 vines per acre. Because of the diverse and challenging terrain, the vines are trained to the ancient gobelet form, a vertical training method invented in an earlier millennium by the Romans. Growing primarily Bordeaux grape varieties, the vineyard yields distinctive mountain wines that consistently display concentration, elegance and longevity.
Potent aromas of sweet dark fruit, cocoa, caramel and intriguing notes of violets introduce the wine. On the palate, the wine is structured and complex, the mid-palate laden with intense fruit - blackberry, cherry and cassis - and further enhanced by notes of chocolate and baking spices. The finish is long and lingering, with a re-statement of concentrated fruit and spice.
Ruffino Riserva Ducale ? a Tuscan Classic
Since its first years of production, Riserva Ducale has become synonymous with fine Chianti, and it has played a leading role in the development of the privileged position which Tuscan quality wines hold throughout the world today. In many markets this Riserva has in fact transcended its category and become known simply as "Riserva Ducale." It has managed to preserve its excellent reputation through time, thanks to Ruffino's commitment to cultivating the finest Sangiovese grapes on the slopes of the Chianti Classico hills.
The bouquet is extremely elegant, characterized by particularly fragrant flowery and fruity notes. Violet, cherries, wild berries and plums meet with delicately spicy hints of tobacco and white pepper grains. Delicate scents of red roses and flint in the final.
Intense, velvety and crispy. Sensations of fragrant fresh fruit are accompanied by steady yet gentle tannins that exalt enjoyable spicy hints. The whole tasting sensation is enriched by a persistent finish that is incredibly fresh and pleasantly mineral and presents an aftertaste with fascinating notes of rosemary.
Ruffino Modus IGT Cabernet/Merlot Tuscany Red Wine
In this special wine, the Sangiovese from the Chianti hills encounters two international grape varieties which have found a new home in Tuscany, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Modus was first produced in 1997 from grapes selected in the vineyards of the Tuscan Estates of Ruffino. It was not, though, a new wine in the real sense of the term. Ruffino had, in fact, been experimenting with the coltivation of non-traditional grape varieties on Tuscan soil since the eighties. Some of the most encouraging results had been obtained with Cabernet and Merlot.
The priviledge of possessing vineyards in the most important vine growing areas of Tuscany has provided Ruffino with the opportunity to find the ideal locations to cultivate these varieties. For this reason, on almost every Ruffino estate a small part of the vineyards have been dedicated to Cabernet and Merlot.
The style of Modus reflects the marvelous complexity of the beautiful Tuscan territory. The success this wine has encountered in its short lifetime makes it a noble representative of the values which have made Tuscany one of the most cherished areas of the world - for its wines - for its culture - for its people.
In Modus the Sangiovese presents its solid structure and typical cherry and red berry aromas; the Merlot contributes with its characteristic smoothness, enriched by delicate notes of mint and small black berry fruits; the Cabernet Sauvignon seals the union between these 3 royal varieties with its austerity, with its sweet, herbaceous perfumes and its elegance.
Complex, yet simple at the same time, modern in style, yet with a distinct Tuscan character, Modus is a child of the union of Ruffino's century-long winemaking experience and the company's desire to renew itself by experimenting with new varietal expressions and new viticultural technologies. This has always been a Ruffino trademark.
Modus is an exercise in style, in experience, in the will to improve.
Colour: Ruby red with violet hues.
Aroma: The impact is intense, complex and fruity. The bouquet initially delivers the intense notes of mature fruit, such as cherries, plums and small black berries that are typical of Sangiovese. Then it fades into hints of spices, mint, sweet tobacco and refined balsamic notes on the finish. The notes typical of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are perfectly integrated with the Sangiovese.
Tasting profile: At the palate it is full-bodied, harmonious and characterized by the finesse of its silky tannins. The taste is exalted by a remarkable pleasantness and a texture in which each varietal adds its own distinctive trait. The finish is incredibly persistent, with an aftertaste of black berry fruit and cocoa.
